Desert Sunrise - Brett Dennen

I wanted to start this blog with a band/musician that I know most people have never heard of, or if they have, a song that is rather overlooked. For the first posting, I decided to post about Brett Dennen, and his song "Desert Sunrise."

The song talks about a lizard who is cold and lonesome from the night that has surrounded him.  The sunrise is the woman that comes and is his savior, in a sense. The sunrise (women) shares her love and warmth through the rays that she gives off.  Her warmth/love helps him forget about his lonely or dismayed past and shows him a brighter future.  However, I feel, that the "lizard" is hoping for a sunrise and not a sunset with this new sun.  Now that he's found her, he doesn't want to go back to the dismal life he had before. The problem is, is the "lizard" is unsure how to tell the sun that he wants her to stay..

The overall meaning that Brett is getting at is a story of lonesomeness, finding love, and the fight to keep it.  He wants us to know that there are brighter days in even our darkest hours. Hope. Hope. Hope.
